APRU Undergraduate Leaders' Programme on Leadership for Sustainable Cities Development from 25 June-6 July 2023, as part of the University’s 60th Anniversary celebration programmes. Hosted by CUHK OAL, the program brought together 55 undergraduate students from 31 APRU member universities in 15 countries/regions, the programme aims to empower young leaders to become changemakers in pursuit of building sustainable, safe, resilient, and inclusive cities in response to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
With ORKTS’s Social Impact Academy as one of the supporting units of the programme, Dr. Elsie Tsui, Head of Social Innovation ORKTS and Project Director of Hong Kong Social Enterprise Challenge, gave an introductory lecture on Design Thinking to equip the participants with essential human-centred design skills. The students would then apply the skills to develop solutions to various challenges of sustainable city development, after gathering insights through different visits and expert sharing. Together with two other CUHK academic leads Prof Mee Kam Ng ( Urban Studies Program) and Prof Hendrik Tieben (School of Architecture), the students were able to gain a broader and deeper understanding in various issues including waste reduction, green transportation, ESG and urban development etc. The programme concluded on a high note with a project presentation where students showcased their innovative solutions to the challenges of sustainable city development.
