Event Highlight | KPF 2024-25 Information Session cum Talk - Bridging Research and Social Impact: Perspectives from Practitioner and Catalyst in Social Innovation (16 Oct 2024)

The Knowledge Transfer Project Fund (KPF) 2024-25 information session was successful, attracting nearly 70 participants keen to explore the insights shared by our guest speakers, Prof. Catherine So from the Department of Educational Psychology, Faculty of Education, and Ms. Ryre Tam, the representative of The Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Fund (SIE Fund) Secretariat, as a practitioner and catalyst of social innovation. The substantial attendance underscores the growing interest among CUHK professors in creating social impact through KPF.

During the fireside chat session, we delved into Prof So’s social innovation journey with a focus on leveraging robots to improve the social skills of children with autism. The discussion revolved around the story behind the establishment of her social enterprise STAR Limited, highlighting the crucial support provided by KPF, S-KPF funding, and ORKTS in driving these innovative initiatives. Prof So also encouraged CUHK professors and researchers to take the opportunity to put their research findings into practice by applying for KPF.

Following this engaging dialogue, Ms Tam share her insights into how evidence-based research led by professors could echo Targeted Poverty Alleviation. She also illustrated successful cases to showcase how the SIE Fund supports social innovators in making a meaningful social impact. For further information of Targeted Poverty Alleviation, you may read the event highlight of Social Impact Academy: Innovation for Targeted Poverty Alleviation and relevant research findings by The Hong Kong Council of Social Service.

The shared experiences of the two guest speakers serve as inspiration for CUHK academics, motivating them to leverage their expertise to create a more inclusive and sustainable society through KPF.
