On November 26, 2024, ORKTS hosted the event "How to Protect Your Inventions: Patent 101 & Patent Funding Support at CUHK" as part of the ORKTS Seminar Series. The event was a full house, reflecting the immense interest and enthusiasm of our staff and students in Patent 101 and Patent Funding Support at CUHK.
Ms. Jennifer Che, President & Managing Director at EAGLE IP, explored the fundamental concepts of patent law, including the requirements needed to obtain an issued patent and strategic considerations for building a patent portfolio. Ms. Che also briefly touched on the differences between patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets, and discussed how to develop a strong IP strategy and portfolio, why proper inventorship is important, how publications can impact a patent, and common mistakes inventors make when pursuing patent rights. The session was followed by a brief introduction to CUHK’s patent funding support from the ORKTS IP and Technology Licensing team.
