Join us for an interactive sharing and dialogue session showcasing the power of dreams in driving social innovation and inclusion. Learn about Prof. Gladys Tang’s dedication to sign bilingual education and her journey in founding the social enterprise SLCO Community Resources. Gain insight into Ms. Fiona Wat’s vision behind producing the movie The Way We Talk, and explore the inspiring journey of Ms. Gloria Shum, a CUHK Bimodal Bilingual Studies graduate, from learning to practicing sign language.

Founder, SLCO Community Resources
Prof. Gladys Tang is an Emeritus and Research Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Since 2003, she has been leading The Centre for Sign Linguistics and Deaf Studies. With support from the CUHK Sustainable Knowledge Transfer Project Fund (S-KPF), she and her team established SLCO Community Resources in 2016 — an NGO and social enterprise extending her research on sign linguistics, language acquisition, and deaf education into impactful social services and projects.
Ms. Fiona WAT
Producer, ‘The Way We Talk’
Founder, Dialogue Experience Silence
Creative, adventurous, and full of wit, Ms. Fiona Wat embarked on her journey as a social entrepreneur in 2011. With the support of DID HK Ltd, a leading social enterprise in Hong Kong, she founded Dialogue Experience Silence, which received the esteemed 2013 Social Enterprise Champion Award – Innovation. She also created Silence le cabaret, the world’s first silent theatrical dining experience, offering a unique fusion of “Impactainment” (Impact + Entertainment) to introduce audiences to a new artistic perspective.
Ms. Gloria SHUM
Sign Bilingual Instructor, SLCO Community Resources
Ms. Gloria Shum graduated in 2023 from CUHK with a major in Bimodal Bilingual Studies. She currently serves as a Sign Bilingual Instructor at SLCO Community Resources, where she works at a partner secondary school under the Sign Bilingualism and Co-enrolment Education Programme. Her role includes co-teaching in sign language, providing sign interpretation for school activities, and organizing diversity and inclusion initiatives. She is also passionate about empowering deaf students in career planning and exploring future opportunities.
