The Research Grants Council (RGC) is inviting applications for the captioned Scheme with the following three types of grant:

  (I) Collaborative Research Project Grant (CRPG);
 (II) Collaborative Research Equipment Grant (CREG); and
(III) Young Collaborative Research Grant (YCRG).

Nature
  • encourage collaborative research across disciplines & universities
  • encourage acquisition of major research facilities / equipment
  • support early career researchers in gaining first-hand experience in leading and managing collaborative research & prepare them to compete for larger collaborative research funding

Funding range
(per project)

  $2 M to $10 M

Institutional quota

  Nil

(Quota for YCRG will be removed starting from 2025/26 exercise.)

Remarks
  •  An applicant may only submit one proposal as the Project Coordinator under CRF in each exercise.
  • All research applications eligible for YCRG funding will first be accorded an opportunity of assessment under the normal-track CRF, and then an additional opportunity for selection under the Y-track.
  • Special points to note raised by RGC

 

Matching Requirement -

  1. Project Grant and YCRG
  • 50% (RGC) / 50% (universities) basis for the equipment costs.
  1. Equipment Grant
  • 50% (RGC) / 50% (universities) basis for the total project cost.

 

Application Materials -

Applicants please submit the following to Grants Team, ORKTS by the respective internal deadlines. Late applications will not be accepted.

  1. Undertaking form via AIMS (please find the instructions here);
  2. Preliminary proposal submission via the RGC Electronic System* (the system will be ready for preparing and submitting the applications starting from late January/early February 2025); and
  3. VeriGuide scanning results.

         * No proposal submissions can be made via the RGC Electronic System after the internal deadline.

Support in CUHK -

  • The Briefing Session for CRF has been held on 8 Nov 2024. The video recording is available here (prior login to ORKTS website is required).
  • ORKTS maintains an archive of application materials generously shared by successful CUHK CRF awardees and will be available for internal reference upon request (Link).
  • To encourage innovation and enhance IP awareness, the University has expanded its patent funding support for research projects under selected grant schemes that are of strategic importance for long-term innovation development. Please kindly note that ONE (1) invention nominated by the Project Coordinator of a funded CRF project will be eligible for University funding support of patent filing in the US (non-provisional), PCT, China, Hong Kong, and Macau.
